The conundrum of San Ysidro: The Full-Time Hoops Top 10
San Ysidro is coming off of one of the strongest three-week stretches of any team in the section. They defeated Torrey Pines, St. Mary's of Arizona and, most recently, handily defeated top-10 program La Jolla Country Day.
Senior guard Sebastian Medina (pictured), picked up an offer from Sonoma State during the The Holiday Classic that saw him score a tournament-high 38 points in the win over St. Mary's, then exploded for 60 points in a 115-65 demolition of Bonita Vista to open league play.
In this installment of the Full-Time Hoops Top 25, they are the No. 3 team, just behind Saint Augustine and San Marcos.
There's just one problem: computers.
San Diego Section is one of a handful of sections that relies on the Maxpreps power rankings to determine its playoff seeding. If the season ended today, the Cougars would not be among the top 8 teams competing in San Diego's Open Division - currently, they're 10th.
It's an insane paradox, one that hopefully will work itself out as San Ysidro continues to win throughout the season. They're the prohibitive favorites in a very tough Mesa League that should help them close the gap and move up the rankings.
Here is this week's Top 25.
