I Know What You Did This Summer: A FTH Sophomore Update

If San Diego's 2026 freshman class was the deepest, you could argue that the 2027 class was the most impactful at the highest levels of San Diego basketball.

From Tavid Lee Johnson's tour de force for resurgent Francis Parker, to Richie Ramirez's dynamic debut for San Marcos, to the trio of freshman at St. Augustine who turned a rebuilding year into a reloading year for the Saints, the class truly lived up to the billing.

But that was last year.

The hard part is repeating the magic.

With the first official day of practice one week away, let's look at where the Class of 2027 stands entering the 2024-25 season.

Still No. 1...

When we last checked in with the 2027 group, we were naming 6-2 Francis Parker G Tavid Lee Johnson our unanimous freshman of the year. Since then, he's only reinforced his claim to the title of best 2027 prospect.

Johnson, who is now 6-3, had a banner spring and summer with West Coast Elite's 16u Under Armour Association travel teams and a big month of June with the Lancers, capped with a dominant performance at the Boys California Live Event in Northern California. As a result, more scholarship offers have poured in, as Johnson now has offers from Big 10 programs USC and Washington and ACC programs Stanford and Cal.

He might very well be the top overall prospect in San Diego, regardless of class.

...But No. 2 is coming in hot

San Marcos G Richie Ramirez's freshman-year performance hovered under the radar, but the 6-2 floor general grabbed everyone's attention with a forceful spring and summer playing on Gamepoint's 15u Adidas 3SSB team and with the Knights. Ramirez led his travel team to a Top 8 finish in the 3SSB and followed it up by helping lead the Knights to a championship win at Boys California Live. Ramirez became the second prospect in the class to notch a scholarship offer when UC San Diego offered him in the fall, and he has since added two offers from Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara.
