Duh: Jurian Dixon headlines the Full-Time Hoops All San Diego teams
My belated parade through the post season continues with the most straightforward Player of the Year Award we've had in a while, which is pretty incredible given the competition.
At the beginning of the season, the talk in San Diego was Mikey Williams' return, the addition of JJ Taylor to San Ysidro, and the Cougars being the odds-on favorite to win the CIF Open Division Championship.
Meanwhile, the reigning player of the year wasn't going anywhere. Jurian Dixon, a 6-5 guard who recently committed to UC Irvine to play college hoops, was returning, and so were the majority of his teammates from the 2021-22 Open Division championship team.
The Saints quickly dispelled any thoughts that they would simply quietly cede their perch to the Border Boyz. In fact, they loudly retorted.
How loudly, you might ask? They rattled off 35 straight wins against San Diego competition since December 2021, including an undefeated run through the county this year, including a 32-point drubbing of Montgomery in the Open Division title game, becoming the first team in the Open Division era to win back-to-back titles in the highest division.
At the center of it all was Dixon, who averaged a team-high 18.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, racked up his second-straight Western League player of the year honor, CIF Player of the Year award and was named to the Cal-Hi Sports All State First Team.
And, of course, I get to honor him as well. Dixon is your Full-Time Hoops Player of the Year.
