Freshman of the Year Mikey Williams headlines the All FTH Freshman Team

Because of his exploits in summer and fall and the huge media contingent following his every move, it felt like San Ysidro freshman sensation Mikey Williams had been playing in San Diego for years.

But his official varsity game was Nov. 20 against El Cajon Valley -- and he emphatically lived up to the hype surrounding him.

Over the year, it would become crystal clear that Williams was who he was billed to be -- a superstar scoring guard with a flair for the dynamic that captivated the region and beyond.

Williams averaged 29.9 points per game, 6.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game, and led San Ysidro to its first ever CIF Title, the Division III crown over Coronado.

For this, Williams is the Full-Time Hoops Freshman of the Year, and headlines our All-Freshman team.

All-Freshman Team

Jurian Dixon, 6-5 W, San Ysidro - The crafty wing averaged 24.5 points per game for the D3 champions. In other years, probably would have been the FOTY.

Angelo Gil, 6-0 PG, Mission Bay - Burst onto the scene with double-digit scoring in his first 3 games and averaged 14 points per game for the Bucs.

Jake Altman, 5-8 PG, La Jolla Country Day - Started at point guard from Day 1 for the Torreys, and became their defensive ace.

Martin Gumwel, 6-10 C, Calvin Christian - Finished his monster year averaging 17 points and 17.7 rebounds per game for the D5 semifinalists.

Darnell Green, 5-9 G, Morse - Starter from Day 1 for the improved Tigers squad, averaging 15 points per game.

Josiah Scott, 5-7 PG, Mar Vista - Averaged 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game starting from Day 1 for the D5 semifinalist Mariners.

Miles Harris, 5-9 G, San Diego - Came on strong after being called up from the JV team midway through the season, starting during the team's championship stretch run.

Second Team

Derrius Carter-Hollinger, 6-3 W, Foothills Christian - Played limited minutes, but clear future of the Knights program.

Jake Jackson, 6-3 W, Madison - Athletic (three-sport star) wing averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds after moving up from the JV.

Josiah Fellows, 6-3 F, Victory Christian - Averaged 13 points per game for the Crusaders.

Mikeal Pink, 6-3 W, Bonita Vista - Long, athletic prospect played solid reserve minutes for the Barons.

Presley Bruskotter, 5-11 G, Calvin Christian - Day 1 starter for Division 5 champs.

Baron Noble, 5-7 G, Morse - Showed flashes of brilliance as one of four freshmen to get significant playing time for the Tigers.

Amare Ary, 5-9 G, San Diego - explosive athlete was a part-time starter for the Cavers before a knee injury sidelined him.

Vincent Ricchiuti, 6-4 G, La Jolla - averaged 9 points per game as a starter for the Vikings in the rugged Western League.

Ty Hendler, 6-1 G, La Costa Canyon - Played solid minutes down the stretch for the Mavericks.

Jeffrey Temcho, 5-10 G, Mar Vista - Averaged 11 points and 3 assists per game, becoming a formidable perimeter defender in the process.

Kalil Keeler, 6-0 G, Escondido - Limited due to injury, Keeler was the Cougars top on-ball defender when healthy.

Nico Reyes, 5-10 G, Montgomery - Came out firing against Sierra Canyon, and had a strong season for the Aztecs.

Jesus Figueroa, 5-11 G, Bonita Vista - Averaged 4.5 points per game and grew with confidence for the Barons.

Dalton Norvell, 6-1 G, Ramona - Came on strong down the stretch for Ramona during league play.

Anthony Arufo, 6-0 G, La Jolla Country Day - day-one contributor for the Torreys known for his energy and spot-up shooting.

Garang Teng, 6-7 F, Army Navy Academy - Raw, but promising big played spot minutes for the Warriors.

Cris Zamora, 5-9 G, Orange Glen - Speedy lead guard is the heir apparent for Chris Featherly's Patriots.

Shakur Jackson, 5-8 G, Hoover - Athletic and speedy lead guard joined the Cardinals halfway through the season and averaged 4.5 points per game.

Rollin George III, 5-10 G, Kearny - Slithery playmaking point guard started and played major minutes for the Komets.

Papa Mbengue, 5-10 G, San Ysidro - Wiry defensive minded point guard played spot minutes for the Cougars.

Princetin Metu, 6-3 F, San Ysidro - Burly, active big man played solid backup minutes for the D3 champs.

Cayden Dawson, 6-4 F, Lincoln - Athletic forward gave the Hornets good hustle minutes off the bench.

Jake Jackson, 6-3 W, Madison - Athletic wing type looks to be the future for Warhawks hoops.
